Rodent infestation of any kind is a pretty bad experience but rats are especially considered to be bad. A number of options are available for rat patrol such as poison, glue traps, electronic traps as well as snap traps but humane traps for rats are preferred by majority of the animal lovers. Live rat traps constructed from wire mesh along with typically galvanized steel reinforcements are commonly used by most people as a form of rat patrol. Rat traps made from wood are not in common use for rat patrol because wood can be chewed through by the large rats pretty quickly. One of the disadvantages of these traps when used as a form of rat patrol is the fact that it is really difficult to handle rats even if they are captured in the cage provided with an amazingly secure door.

Another fact which is well known is that rats cannot be transported very conveniently to some place or area where it is possible to release them. A mouse can be released in the garden of your house pretty easily but when it comes to rats the task can become quite a nuisance. The rats may have to be taken especially to a disposal site for animals. Also rats are believed to be smart as well as distrustful. Anything new makes them highly suspicious and in most cases curiosity is overcome by suspicion. You got be quite careful and alert and rat patrol is definitely not an easy job.

It is generally not advisable to use poison for rat patrol mainly because of two reasons. First the food that has been poisoned may be consumed by your own pets. Another reason is that after the poison has been consumed by the rat it can crawl inside your house and then die. The corpse of the rat after decomposition would cause a very bad smell.

Humane trap for rats is believed to be one of the best rat patrol forms as it is efficient and clean. It is up to you to decide whether you can deal with a live angry rat or a dead one before you surf through the available products. Another fact that needs to be considered is the kind of set up offered by the rat trap. For instance a glue rat trap is not very strong and the rat can easily escape through it.  Similarly a snap rat trap simply maims the rat instead of killing it.
